Chap Book and Anthology

Written on March 15th, 2010 by adminno shouts

At the request of several participants we are constructing a chapbook of poems written during WoPoWriMo for those who took part. The e-book will be only be sent to the mailing list so will not count as ‘published’ for those seeking publication in journals and the like. It would just be fun to share what we have all done with each other.

There is also work afoot to make an anthology of poems written during WoPoWriMo. This will be available as both an e-book and a physical book, and will very much count as published! Any profit from sales will be split between WoPoWriMo (to do site maintenance and the like for next year) and the Wikipaedia Foundation (they have an awful lot of infrastructure that costs money and they give us a valuable resource! Plus they are involved in many smaller projects that should help relieve poverty in the long run).

We hope you will wish to take part in one or both of these projects! Send up to five of your poems in the body of the email to books@wopowrimo.org with the subject line Chap and Anthology or if you wish to only take part in the Chap book just Chap. A short bio or informative bit about yourself complete with any personal blog links etc. would be good too. The maximum word count is 500 for the biography.

We are very excited about these projects and hope you will be too!

One Week Down!

Written on February 8th, 2010 by adminno shouts

Well there is one week down and hopefully you have started amassing poems! What? “No”?

Well go back and do the exercises, even if you run them all as response writing exercises and forget the poem bit – you may find that when you look back at them something poetic will jump out!

Fresh people are joining the challenge of WoPoWriMo and poems are being put on WoPoWriMo Poems, we have participents in four continents and are covering a wide range of ages and styles.

Go get writing those poems!

And for those feeling they are producing too much and it’s all drivel – keep writing, some of it can be edited into shape. As for the rest…. well, you obviously need to get it out of your system.

Write-Ins and Meet-Ups

Written on February 6th, 2010 by adminno shouts

We cannot sanction or really encourage meet-ups with people in your areas that you don’t already know, as we do not have ML’s and the like that NaNoWriMo have and so we can not add a structure and safety aspect to the meets.

That being said they are one of the most productive writing activities you can take part in and they can be a lot of fun and we are aware they are happening anyway, so here is a guide of how to do it safely.

Never give out your address if you are organising it – organise the meet-up to be in a very public place, preferably during the day. Go with a friend and if you are under 16 you should be taking a parent or guardian along too (at least to the first one). Make sure people know that you are going out and how long you should be gone for – maybe text in regually to let them know all is well.

Again do be careful if you organise it as a ‘public’ event as there are some strange people out there.

WoPoWriMo Poems

Written on February 4th, 2010 by adminno shouts

There is now an area for poets to put up their poems and share their work – check it out here.

Poems can be made ‘private’ so they don’t count as published. All rights remain with the author of the poem, so if you like what you see don’t nick it; just ask and see what they say!

Obviously you will get more feedback if your poem is public 🙂

And apologies that the poems page did not initially appear on the site but it is there now.

At Midnight…

Written on January 31st, 2010 by adminno shouts

It is the 31st of January and that means one thing – tonight at the stroke of midnight it becomes the fabled month of February, a time when bards and poets sit down to compose.

A time of poetic abandon and insanity that lasts for a whole month.

That’s right, it is almost WoPoWriMo time; so I hope you all have a good stock of pens, pencils, notebooks and/or electronic devices to capture those little ditties that are pushing at your brain cells for release!

Happy composing… get ready, get steady… wait for midnight… GO!!!!
