Happy Poetry New Year 2013!

Written on January 7th, 2013 by adminno shouts

It’s 2013 and here we go with another year of fantastic poetic license and a site brimming with writing exercises and ideas to get the creativity glands going!

Our plans are to spruce up the website and make everything shipshape.

And don’t forget Kathryn Apel’s Month of Poetry this month.

Writing challenges such as the poem a month challenges, we so love, are very good ways to get you into a regular writing routine! Everyone on our team has a bucket load of writing New Years Resolutions and goals, as I’m sure all of you do as well, so good luck and get writing!

I can’t do this – Yes! You! Can!

So why do a poem a day challenge? Most of what you’ll write will be drivel and need to be thrown away, won’t it?

There are many reasons to take part in WoPo least of which is that it will bring you into contact with other creative writers, some maybe starters some more advanced maybe even coughs published!

Then there is the fact that the writing exercises will help get you into the discipline of writing something everyday. What you may end up with is a series of ideas and strong imagery at the end of the month the actual form it is written in may be trash but there are seeds there for you to grow. And equally you may find yourself walking away with a body of work that needs a bit of editing but is generally good!

You may feel you can not commit to a poem a day what with work, kids, small empire to run etc… in which case set your own target say ‘I will put five minutes a day aside’; that is all it takes to get some ideas down you can use later on.

If you wish to warm up there are last year’s writing exercises! Not to mention guest bloggers with excellent advice and inspiring words!

You do not have to use the exercises we will be post on the site for your poems; they are just there in case you get stuck!

Good Luck to you all 🙂

Welcome to the WoPo challenge!

WoPoWriMo Wiggly Pets

Written on May 10th, 2010 by adminno shouts

There have been 10 WoPo 2010 Wiggly Pets made, most of these have gone to the guest bloggers (for free – we even pay the postage and packaging!). Those that have not found a home in this way will be put up for sale – probably on e-bay next week.

Just letting you all know incase your interested!

And Now What?

Written on May 3rd, 2010 by adminno shouts

If you are really lucky and managed to complete both WoPo and NaPo you will now have about 60 almost poems.

Some of these will have to be chucked but alot of them will be some thing that can be polished into a poem gem.

Those April poems probably need to sit abit now though so that you come back to them with fresh eyes! Start with the WoPoWriMo poems – sort the wheat from the chauff (ie take out the good ones and chuck the rest!).

Submissions for the Chap Book and the Anthology will be open until Midnight Sunday the 30th of May – remember you can submit up to five poems and read the guidlines on weather to go for both poetry collections.

We hope to see some fantastic poems 🙂

Missing the Challenge?

Written on March 22nd, 2010 by adminno shouts

Missing the challenge of writing a poem a day?

Then why not take part in National Poetry Writing Month in April! Many of you have been saying how you miss WoPo so here is your chance to do it all over again 🙂 Or maybe you could use it as a month of revision for those poems you have already?

We know several die hards have already signed up and are ready to go with this new poetry challenge.

Thinking you’ll run into difficulty with finding inspiration for another month of POETIC INSANITY? Why not look back on the writing excersises we did in Febuary and see if they spark any creativity?

There is also the newletter which always contains extra writing stimuli 🙂

Plus we will be post weekly idea generating tid bits on this site through out April.

Those of you signed up to WoPoWriMo Poems feel free to post your NaPoWriMo poems there if you wish.

We hope you’ll join us for this extra challenge! Though we do appreciate it clashes with Script Frenzy another fantastic writing challenge!

Good luck to all

Chap Book and Anthology

Written on March 15th, 2010 by adminno shouts

At the request of several participants we are constructing a chapbook of poems written during WoPoWriMo for those who took part. The e-book will be only be sent to the mailing list so will not count as ‘published’ for those seeking publication in journals and the like. It would just be fun to share what we have all done with each other.

There is also work afoot to make an anthology of poems written during WoPoWriMo. This will be available as both an e-book and a physical book, and will very much count as published! Any profit from sales will be split between WoPoWriMo (to do site maintenance and the like for next year) and the Wikipaedia Foundation (they have an awful lot of infrastructure that costs money and they give us a valuable resource! Plus they are involved in many smaller projects that should help relieve poverty in the long run).

We hope you will wish to take part in one or both of these projects! Send up to five of your poems in the body of the email to books@wopowrimo.org with the subject line Chap and Anthology or if you wish to only take part in the Chap book just Chap. A short bio or informative bit about yourself complete with any personal blog links etc. would be good too. The maximum word count is 500 for the biography.

We are very excited about these projects and hope you will be too!
